These people seemed happy to see this steam train pass through Blackheath last November – and on Sunday, another steam train will leave London Bridge at 9.45am, passing through New Cross, St Johns, Hither Green, Lee, Sidcup,
UPDATE: Looks like the route has changed – see comments below.
Steam trains have magical powers. My very-very-non-gricer flatmate was absolutely delighted by the Isle of Man Steam Railway this summer. When her dad pointed out that this was his actual mode of transport into town when he fancied a beer or two and didn’t want to get a cab home, she was impressively jealous.
The train is the Shepherd Neame Spitfire Express – you can read all about the trips it is making here:

According to http://www.shepherd-neame.co.uk/tour/documents/PublicTimes2010.doc it’s leaving London Bridge at 09:55, going out via Hither Green and returning via Norwood Junction, so Blackheath’s going to miss out.
My father will be overjoyed! 🙂
