Support 853

Sunrise from the London Cable Car looking towards Charlton and Woolwich
Greenwich borough is changing. You wouldn’t know it if you relied on the legacy local media titles such as the News Shopper, South London Press and MyLondon

I’ll get straight to the point – if you like what 853 does, then please consider supporting it with a small monthly donation. It can’t survive without it.

Local journalism in south-east London has suffered hugely from financial cutbacks in recent years as established operators cling to outdated business models and squeeze their titles for every last bit of profit.

For nearly a decade, 853 has followed local issues in Greenwich and beyond and brought you stories the established titles can’t. But this takes time and costs money to do.

If you are able to, donating a few pounds a month will help offset those costs. If enough people are able to donate money, then we’ll have the freedom to use some workdays to investigate stories and write them up.

Over 550 people get the email version of this website, with many more following on social media – if all paid £5 per month, then this would become a full-time job, with room to pay others.

We’re also open to sponsorship/ one-off advertising deals from reputable local companies – get in touch for further details.

You can find 853 on three different crowdfunding platforms.

  • Find us on Steady at steadyhq.com/853 – donate monthly amounts in pounds
  • We’re on PressPatron at presspatron.com/853 – donate monthly or annual amounts in pounds, or give a one-off donation
  • We’re also on Patreon at patreon.com/853 – donate monthly amounts in dollars

Most of this money pays a part-time wage for site editor Darryl Chamberlain, with some money held by Flyover Media, the community interest company that runs this site, to pay running costs and invest in future projects.
